can we change the file size that c2 creates a new trc file at ?
I want to know if I can have sql server C2 login log to a file till it
reaches 10 megs and switch to another one.
the reason is that I want to ship the logs to a log aggregation software
every hour or so ?
any ideas ?
Hi,

Can SQL 2000 restore database and user login on another server?
domain and computer name? If it can't, how to export user
login to another computer?
You can migrate logins from one server to another server by generating a
script using a routine called sp_help_revlogin. Here is an article I wrote
about it:

Hi
Simple User Account Login demonstration of managing user account information on a server in traditional way using ASP.NET 1.1.
If you prefer asp.net 2.0 refer toHow to implement Two basics uses for the Asp.net Login control 2.0 (login and RememberMe).
Hope this helps.

can someone login as "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM "
AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE? I'm trying to figure out how someone got access to
one of our servers. I log both the failed and successful logins and both of
the above logins were used recently. Do they have passwords that can be set?
What would be the implications if I removed both of them from
"security/logins"? I'm running both the server service and agent service with
a different login so it wouldn't affect the jobs.
Thanks,

The article is talking about a vunerability highlighted in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823980 that can be exploited by a specific
worm, rather than something actually logging in a the account. You should
make sure that your system is patched to a level which does not have this
issue. Tools like Microsoft Baseline Security Advisor will help you configure

Can see Service Broker queue with SQL Server Login
I have an application that is reading a message from a Service Broker Queue. When I use integrated security with an NT account it works fine. When I use a SQL Server User through Management Studio I can select from the Queue however, when I use this same account through the web app with the SQL Server User, I cannot see the Queue. Is there a grant that I must do to this account to get it to see the Service Broker Objects?
Gary
Service broker doesn't use any special security/access checks other than the normal SQL Server security/ access restrictions. If the queue is visible from the SSMS, but not from the Web app, it means that the Web app it connects with different settings/credentials than the SSMS.Can SA be dropped

Set a password like

Can report results be filtered by Windows user login?
Good morning,
I'm in the process of creating a report to show employees and managers holiday and absence information. Is there a way of filtering the results of the report based on who is running the report, so that employees could only see their own information and managers could only see theirs and their subordinates information?
What I was hoping to do was create a lookup table which cross-references Windows logins with employee numbers and then use this information to pass a parameter to the SQL query, but I don't know how to retrieve the login from the machine being used to view the report.
I've heard about row level security and it seems ideal in theory but I fear the implimentation of row level security would be far beyond my meagre knowledge.
Any constructive suggestions welcomed.
Thanks,
Paul
Hello Paul,
Whenever you create an expression, take a look under the Globals node. One your options is User!UserID, this will give you the Windows login of the user running the report.
Hope this helps.

Will that sample run against 2005 Reporting Services with little or no
modification?

2000, although that doesn't mean you'd have the same luck (or lack thereof).
If this doesn't work with 2005, then I'm pretty sure there must be resources
online--by Microsoft or somebody else--for implementing the forms
authentication custom extension.
Hope this helps,

Thank you for you post and thanks Marks' help.
In the SQL Server 2005 Books online, there is a section about the Forms
Authentication in Reporting Services 2005.
Authentication in Reporting Services
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms152899.aspx
Also there is a sample in the SQL Server if you install the samples.
Security Extension Sample

Hope this will be helpful!

can objects in sql server change your nt login password
i was wondering if there is a bug in sql server 2000 that upon changing settings in the sqlserver agent or sqlserver services that it will actually change your nt user password.
a strange occurence happened to me i switched the sqlmail to a different outlook profile that is MAPI compliant i had to stop and start the sql server agent upon restart it said it could not log me in b/c my nt logon failed (i guess you can figure out by now that i have authentication as NT in my set up of sql server agent). well me knowing microsoft products i was like ah i will just reboot the machine) well upon reboot my administrator password which is empty "null value"no longer is valid.
now noone in the company said that they changed the administrator password and it is not logged into a domain so the machine is not on our companys network. we log in local to the machine as the administrator. the last things that i played around in with sql server was replication setting it up as a publisher and deleteing it and changing a mapi profile. is there anywhere in sql 2000 that messing with any setting that it will actually affect your windows nt user login?? i know i cant be loosing my mind here and i hope someone at my company wouldnt sabotage my machine. right now i have two options i can reinstall win 2000 and choose repair hoping that i will not lose my sql 2000 info or i can try a password cracker. any suggestions that might of cause this to happen?
regards,
Robertof course Microsoft is always providing use with new features, but I doubt this unlikely. What you described sounds exactly as if the user password had been changed at the OS level. The password could have been changed by mistake.

Can not remove user from SQL database....
I have a Db that has user name of 'dbo' and login name of 'sa'. For
security reasons, I want this gone.
This user was the owner, but I changed the owner to another user and verified.
After doing this, I still cannot remove the dbo - sa user from the DB. I
get errors:
"Selected user cannot be dropped because the user owns objects"
I cannot remove the public or owner roles from this user either.
Any Ideas?
Thanks much,
MarkThe new owner *is* dbo, so you can't remove that.
You cannot remove the sa login either, since this is a special login. In 2005, you can disable it
and rename it (see ALTER LOGIN).

I'm not sure I understand.
I have many DB's and most of them do not have a "DBO" user attached to them
(especially dbo with sa login name).
I added another user to the DB, SQLADMIN, and made that user the owner.
I now want to remove the dbo user with login name of "sa". Or, I at least I
want to change the "sa" on the dbo user to "SQLADMIN" user login name. I get
the errors when I try to remove the dbo-sa user/login name.
I'm doing this from the DB USERS folder, I am not trying to remove the SA
LOGIN from the logins folder.
How to do it?
Thanks much,
Mark

I find the terminology " have a "DBO" user attached to them" confusing. What do you mean by
"attached"? Are you saying that there is no user named dbo in these databases? Note: I'm referring
to the "users" folder! If you have databases in which there is no dbo user, then you have something
strange going on!
> I added another user to the DB, SQLADMIN, and made that user the owner.
Above confuses me even more. You don't add a user to a database. You add a login *as a user in the
database*. Also, how did you make that user the owner of the database? Exactly what steps did you
do, or what commands did you run. If possible please communicate using TSQL commands, as we can run
thses to see whether we get the same result or not.
> I now want to remove the dbo user with login name of "sa".
So you want to change the owner of the database from the login "sa" to some other login? OK, that is
fine, no problems. Use sp_changedbowner for that (you can also use ALTER AUTHORIZATION if you are on
2005).

> want to change the "sa" on the dbo user to "SQLADMIN" user login name.
Again, the terminology used above confuses me. Are you saying that you want to change the owner of
the database from the login "sa" to some other login? If so, see my above comment.

Sorry about that, I got a little mixed up. There are dbo users on my DB's.
What I want to do is get rid of the "sa" login name and change it to
something else like my "SQLadmin" user.
I tried the sp_changedbowner to change my DB owner to this other user, and
now the "sa" is gone. I believe there was some delay however as it still
showed "sa" after I ran the sp_changedbowner and that is why I was confused.
All seems well now!
Thanks!

Can not remote login to MSDE
On the server I can access my MSDE perfectly.
But, from a remote computer it seems impossible to connect.
Some (maybe) important information:
To create a user at my msde I used:
sp_addlogin (@. the MASTER DB)
sp_adduser (@. My DB)
sp_addrolemember (@. My DB)
Then I runned SVRNETCN.exe and enabled TCP/IP.
btw: I don't have a firewall running and both computers are on the same local network.is it trying to use windows integrated auth to connect, or mixed mode?|||It's configured for Mixed Mode...
I want to use sql-authentication and not windows authentication.
(it works localy, but not from an other computer)|||if it's running on a remote computer and U R using a firewall (XP...)
then try to open some port (1433) for the SQL Server DTS with the IP of the server...|||Nope, I don't have a firewall running...
I tried to telnet to 1433 to the MSDE, but even on the computer where my MSDE is running on, I can't get a telnet connection to 1433.
SQLServer uses tcp/ip, doesn't it?
I can't connect with VS.NET, Query Analyser, ... to my MSDE from an computer diferent than the computer that is running MSDE.|||I found out than my MSDE isn't 'registered' in my 'Data Sources (ODBC)'.
I registered it but...
It still doesn't work, but I think I am on the right spot :-)|||Ok, totaly wrong...
It has nothing to do with 'Data Sources (ODBC)'.
I tried everything!
It seems like MSDE isn't capable of listening at tcp/ip 1433.
Is this disabled in MSDE?|||try to check this:
on SQL Server configuration properties -> Connections
make sure the number is 0 (unlimited) or set it to 10 (for the test)
+
I did not hear U say U don't have a firewall on the server...|||I found it!!
I guess it's a bug in the install.
There is a key in the registry that contains no value:
..\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib\Tcp\tcpPort
The value has to be: 1433
But what if you have more than one instance?
You can't bind them all to the same port...
..\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib\Tcp\TcpDynamicPorts
It also doesn't contain a value...

I'm having the same problems without using Veritas. When i try to connect it says the server does not exist or access is denied. When i installed SQL it did not set up my server name as local or localhost like a lot of these manuals i have says it will do
