can view reports created in RS after upgrading to RS sp1?

Hi,
My server is currently running Reporting Services. I want to upgrade it
to reporting services sp1 or sp2. I wanna know after upgrading it to
sp1, will I will be able to view my older reports which is created
using reporting services? No problem. I suggest sp2. Also, upgrade your designer as well.

Can SSRS 2005 be installed on Windows XP SP2?

I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer edition on a Windows XP SP2 to run side by side with SQL Server 2000 dev edition and SSRS 2000.

Can SSRS 2005 be installed to run on Windows XP SP2?

Thanks

Yes you can.

I have RS2005 installed on my portable computer (with Windows XP SP 2) and it's work fine - even the development tool (VS2005). Of course you need to have IIS installed on your computer.

Good luck.

Can SQLServer produce Excel Spreadsheet output ?

Deaa group,

I am using SQLServer 2000 in an XP Sp2. I would like to do the
following:

I have a program running on a database server that generates some data
which are loaded to the database. This program is used in a web
application, invoked by some java program and JSP scripts. (I am
frontend illiterated.)

The question is, is it possible to write a stored procedure to generate
output in excel spreadsheet? So that user could call this procedure
and get spreadsheet output on the client side.

Any pointer to a solution would be immensely apprecaited.

thanks,

As far as I know, there's no direct way to export to an .xls from a stored
proc. DTS can export data to Excel, and you can execute a package from a
stored proc in various ways:

http://www.sqldts.com/default.aspx?210

By using ActiveX steps in a DTS package, you could control all the details
of the .xls file name, structure, column headers etc. via the Excel COM
interface, but you would need to actually install Excel on the server in
order to do that, which may not be possible (or desirable).

Another option would be calling bcp.exe via xp_cmdshell to create a CSV or
tab-delimited file. In the end, the easiest solution might be to find a Java
or JSP module of some sort which can export to Excel - then you just return
the result set to the client or middle tier as usual, and let it create the
file, which is probably a cleaner solution than dealing with presentation in
the database itself.

Simon|||i know ASP can generate an xls from data selected by a SP. i bet there
is some way JSP can do it as well, i'm just not a web developer =P

Can SQL Server 2005 SP2 applies to Express ?

Can I apply the SP2 to SQL Server 2005 Express or I have to download the SQL
Server 2005 Express SP2 Edition ?
Besides, I would like to know whether SQL Server 2005 Express SP2 Edition is
a full installation of Express (i.e. I can set up SQL Server 2005 Express in
a workstation) or it is only a SP ?
Thanks

Download SQL Express with SP2 from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/register/default.aspx and
install it over your current installation. The installation will upgrade
your existing installation or install a new copy of express if you choose to
do so. The difference between your existing express installation and Express

Can SQL Server 2005 run on Windows XP SP2

Hi
In "http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/standard/sysreqs.mspx" I read that
SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition can run on Windows XP SP2.
I am sure that I read some place that SQL Server 2005 Standard edition must
run on a server operating system.
Is this correct?
Regards Kjell Arne JohansenSQL Server 2005 Standard is supported on Windows XP SP2. It says so
on the box (so to speak) and it runs fine for me.
Not that I would use XP for a production server, but it is supported.

Can sendStringParametersAsUnicode=false be overriden/changed for certain cases

Configuration: MS SQL server 2005 SP2, and MS jdbc driver version: 1.1
The sendStringParameterAsUnicode has been set to false for performance reasons. However, when inserting unicode data, we would like to override the setting and send the data encoded in unicode, instead of defaulting the whole app to unicode=true and take a performance hit.

Any suggestions? We have tried the cast(? as nvarchar) function, but that did not help.

Sample code/output:
String text = "\u0143\u0144";
sendStringParametersAsUnicode=false
insert into unitable (_ntext) values (?)
Inserting into databse:
143 144 (printed hex values)
Read from database:
3f 3f (printed hex values)

Unicode is the native string representation for communication with SQL Server, if you are converting to MBCS, then you are doing 2 converts for every string. I suggest that if you are concerned with performance, use all Unicode instead of all MBCS.

Hope that helps,

John

Hello,

Sample code will be great in helping to answering this question. I am interested in what API calls are being made to insert and retrieve the data (stmt.execute(), pstmt.setString(), rs.getString(), rs.getCharacterStream(), etc).

Additionally, the following diagnostic information may help:

SQL Server Collation.

SQL Server Machine Language.

Client machine Language.

I'll assume the client and server machines are distinct. Therefore, let's clarify where the data is being improperly converted. After insertion, is the data accurate on the server?

Kind Regards,

Jaaved

Can not install service pack

Hi,
I have a win2k server running SQL2000. I have tried to install SP4 for SQL.
Evertything looks normal, but when I check the version it is still SP2. I
have compared the log file with another and there is a major differnce:
problem server:
09:57:26 Start Process...updating reg entries for SP
09:57:26 No Server -> Tools
Succesfully updated server:
14:46:11 Start Process...updating reg entries for SP
14:46:11 Default instance
Could this be the problem, and if so, how to solve this ?
Regards,
PanjoHi
The most common reasons for a SP not installing are either
Using the wrong download file
SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-LLL.exe (Database Components SP4)
SQL2000.AS-KB884525-SP4-x86-LLL.exe (Analysis Services SP4)
SQL2000.MSDE-KB884525-SP4-x86-LLL.exe (Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) SP4)
SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-ia64-LLL.exe (SQL Server 2000 SP4 (64-bit))
Unzipping the download but not running it
http://tinyurl.com/nbc9v
or Updating the wrong instance.
http://tinyurl.com/pmsvc
You also may want to stop/restart the server as a matter of course even if
you are not prompted to do so.
From the message it looks like SQL Server is not actually running on this
server, use NET START at a command prompt to verify this.

I am quite sure I have the right downloadfile, my testserver is updated
succesfully. There is only one instance, so I can not update the wrong one.
Using net start confirms that mssqlserver and sqlserveragent are running.
I think some reg entry's are missing or wrong. I had some problems with this
server in the past. Then I run the SQL setup again, and did a registry
rebuild. Everything is working fine after that, except that I can not instal
l
SP4.
Any idea which reg key's are checked during the install of SP4 ?
