Can views be used in query builder?

I tried it but got an invalid object error. I then copied and pasted the sql statement contained in the view but it doesn't run correctly inside query builder and only shows 1 valid row, and a 2nd row that's blank the the first column and has a number 1 in the second column. The view runs correctly in SQL Server Management Studio Express.

How about wrapping the view inside a stored procedure?

Stored procedures can't be used in query builder either. All I can do is put in a dummy SQL statement (like Select 1 as column1, 2 as whatever) and then change it to a stored procedure later when I have access to the "data" tab in [Design].

That doesn't seem right but is the only way I can figure out how to do it.

Can reports access session object and/or variables?

We are using SQL Reporting Services 2000.
We need the reports to be able to access a session variable or the request
object's server variables. How can we do this?Thank you for posting.
As for the SQL Server reporting service, the report components and controls
are well encapsulated to provide data centric processing. The underlying
ASP.NET application pipeline or components are hidden from the report
builder or developer, so we can not directly access session object in SQL
RS's report.
BTW, if you're programmtically request the SSRS report in ASP.NET web
application (through webservice), you can consider put the session state
manipulation code in ASP.NET application layer.

As an alternative to session, do you know if there is a way to do a global
variable for several reports to access? Our reports need to access a URL
that is different in the dev/test/production environments. One other person
suggested pulling this URL from a dataset, which is a decent workaround, but
it just seems like there should be a way to do a global variable in report
manager (we are using SRS2000).

So far I haven't found any other particular storage like the Session state
in normal web application. I also think the suggesion on using database to
store such data is reasonable. And you can consider defining a shared
datasource for such database table so that make the shared data accessing
more reusable among your report projects.

Can Object Explorer filter on databases?

The object explorer filter works fine at the database level, but I'd love to be able to filter out the hundreds of other databases on my dev server and see only the one I'm currently working on.

Is this possible?

To my knowledge, if the filter button does not become enabled on a particular collectio node in Object Explorer then NO. If you find otherwise, please post it.|||I'm sure your right - bit sad that more thought wasn't put into it. If I've got 100 databases on my production and development server and I'm only working on one, it becomes a real pain scrolling around in the treeview. I keep right clicking and expecting to see a "New window from here" option like in MMC. Oh well, next version maybe...|||

Filtering the databases displayed in Object Explorer is not currently possible in Management Studio.

Feature requests from customers have more weight than suggestions from the staff, so if you could file a suggestion for this on the MSDN feedback center (http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/productfeedback/) it would help this suggestion get implemented sooner.

Thanks,
Steve

Can not see any server in the available servers list

I successfully installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition in my pc. I ran Visual Basic 6 and used and Ado object to build a connection string to access the server but, I could not see any server in the comobox list.

I always get connection failure messages say that the server does not exitst!!!

Any help please.

Thanks

The installation process does not leave the server open to 'outside' connections. You will have to manually 'open' the server. Here are some useful resources:
