Can we control the privilege of Drilling down?

How can we control the privilege of Drilling down?

For example:

There are for sale area of a company.

The manager of the company can view the total sale report of whole company, and view the individual sales report of the four area. The sales can view the total sale report of whole company, but they can only drill down the area of himself,they can not drill down the other area .

How can I do that?

you can perform check of privilege of drilling down by Code in (ReportProperties).
For example (in Properties):
[Row].Visibility = Code.MyFunction
where MyFunction check if the Current user has necessary privilege to see selected row.

can we control how transaction send from principal to mirror ?

If application inserting 10000000 rows in one transaction to principal database

how infomation will be transfered once it is commited and where it will be stored before it is replayed on mirror database?

1. Is it going to be 1 big data packet ?

2.is it going to be split on many packets (of what size ?)

Log records are sent from principal to mirror by log block boundary (64k max). In this case, since the transaction log for the transaction will be larger than 64K, multiple log blocks will be sent to the mirror. The log records are being sent continuously -- it doesn't wait for the commit.

The log records are stored on the log files on the mirror and are are applied on the mirror database continuously.

Yes, the log is written to the .ldf file of the mirror database.

I'm running the following SQL to get values for 4 fields. It is
unacceptably slow. I have no control over the structure of the
database, field names, indexes etc. - what I'm given as far as DB
design is all I'm going to get. If anyone could make any suggestions
I'd really appreciate it!

Well, it sounds like you're pretty much screwed. How many rows
does the query return? Is it appreciably faster if you remove
the 'DISTINCT' and do you have the opportunity to detect
and ignore duplicates at the client? Can you even find out
what indexes are on the tables or get the query plan for this?
There may be other query criteria that you could drop, and
instead post-qualify rows in the client.

design the query. The database is an undocumented nightmare with few

There is nothing wrong with the query, except that maybe the DISTINCT is
not necessary and could save some time if you dropped it.

The key of this query's performance is in the available indexes (and
maybe the hardware configuration). If no usuable indexes are available
and the tables are large then this query will run like a dog. You should
really turn to the DBA who can put the proper indexes in place...

My newsserver had an outage, so the reply I posted originally got lost.
What I said in that post was not that fantastic:

Without know the tables and indexes it's about impossible to give
suggestions. If you post the CREATE TABLE and CREATE INDEX statements
(don't forget constraints!), as well some indication of table sizes,
we might be able to give some tips.

Even better if you can run:

SET STATISTICS PROFILE ON

SET STATISTICS PROFILE OFF

and post the output. (Preferably in an attachment, as the output is far too
wide for news article).

However, a few minutes later one more thing occurred to me, and that was
when I discovered that the newsserver was sick.

Anyway, what you could try is to run DBCC DBREINDEX on all involved tables.
While it is not going to cause the query to run with the speed of light
all of a sudden, you could see an improvement with 20-30% if there is
serious fragmentation of the tables.

Can Reportviewer control size be dynamic

When using an asp.net 2.0 reportviewer control to display an SSRS report, the size of the report is always bigger that the control it is housed in. So you have to scroll back and forth.

Can't the Reportviewer control size be dynamic? What is the general parctice on this?

I'm not sure what do you mean by "control the size dynamically". Based on my knowledge, if the report does not need to scroll verticall within the iframe, you can handle it in two ways.

First, assign the height, width value in a hard coded way, you can refer the following code which shares the solution.

Second, you can set two properties to make the repoertviewer autosize:

AsyncRendering = false; and SizeToReportContent = true;

Can report content be generated dynamically?

I have figured out how to use a custom code assembly to dynamically control
the content of the textboxes in the footer of my report.
For example, I have an expression like this in one of the textboxes:
=Code.OakRptLib.BuildPageFooterLeft()
This approach assumes that the textboxes already exist in the report footer.
I am trying to build custom code assemblies that allow my reports to be
dynamically configured in a consistent, standard manner at run time.
Ideally when the report starts up I would like to dynamically create these
text boxes in the report footer so that I can make sure they all use the same
font settings, positioning, content, etc.
Is there a way that I can dynamically create these text boxes in the report
footer when the report first starts processing? For example with code in the
OnInit() method?

The only thing you may do is using a program to dynamically create a rdl
file.
Since the RDL file is a XML format, you could use the .NET program to
generate a RDL file.
